Guide Bar Gauges: .043 vs .050 vs .058 vs .063
Which gauge your saw uses, and what changes when you move between them.

Gauge is the bar-groove (and drive-link) thickness. You don’t choose it freely — your saw dictates it.
.043” — lightweight
Found on small homeowner and battery saws. Light and fast, but less robust under heavy load.
.050” — the standard
The most common gauge across homeowner and mid-range saws. If unsure, your saw is probably .050”.
.058” and .063” — pro
Thicker, stiffer drive links for professional and high-torque saws that take abuse.
The rule
The chain gauge must equal the bar groove. You can’t safely run a .050 chain in a .058 groove (it wobbles) or a .063 chain in a .050 groove (it won’t seat). Match the number stamped on your bar.
